WNCLN Library Catalog FAQ

How do I mark and export records?

There are two ways to mark records for export:

Method 1
(Ok, but not the best way)

You can mark individual records in the brief display or list mode by placing a check in the box to the left of each title. For example:

But, you must "Save Marked Records" by clicking the box at the bottom of the screen before moving on to the next screen, or you will lose them. You will also lose your marks in the brief display mode if you click on a title to view the full record without clicking this button beforehand.

Method 2
(Better way)

Marking records for export from the full record will allow you to be more critical in what you mark and will cause you less headaches in the end.

Once a record is displayed, clicking the "Mark for Export" button at the top of the record will mark and save it for you in one easy step. It will be marked and saved for export until you decide to clear it.

Once you have marked a record, you will automatically see two additional buttons, "Export Marked" and "Clear Marked," next to the Mark for Export button at the top of the screen.

When you are ready to export the records you have marked, click "Export Marked." This will create a list of your marked records at the bottom half of the screen.

At this point, you will be given the option to send the list to your:

  • e-mail address;
  • browser screen (for printing); or
  • floppy disk (local disk)

in the format of your choosing (Full Display, Brief Display, Pro-Cite, etc.)

In most cases, Full Display is best. This format will include all the necessary bibliographic information that you will need, including the author, title, publisher, year, location, and call number.

E-mail Exporting

Type your entire e-mail address, and click the Submit button.

Browser Exporting

Click the Browser option and then click Submit. Once your records are displayed, click the Print button at the top of your browser window.

Local Disk Exporting

You might want to ask for help at the Reference Desk the first time that you do this, since libraries and individual set-ups differ.

When You Have Finished

Make sure you have cleared your marked list by clicking the "Clear Marked" button.
